Ken is blasting into the scene with an instant classic funky joint called Closer To The Sun, and is being accompanied by veteran established names on remix duties. US-based Ken has a good ear for chilled funky hooks and has cooked up a perfect example on the title tune on this EP.
Good friend and partner producers from discObeta is taking it further down the chilled path with their down tempo trippy mix which will be sure to please your ear. discObeta has featured on multiple compilations and remixes as well as dropped the Chinese Robots EP right here on BBP.
Legendary electro disco funk producer from New York Ursula 1000 also adds his signature treatment to the Closer To The Sun jam by adding some catchy electro synth and beats to keep the trippy vibes going strong.
German producer-duo Mined & Forrest takes the track to the dancefloor by applying a well-arranged midtempo groove and some ghetto funk beats. The track is spiced up with a good doze of catch vocal samples for the ghetto funkers.
Last but not least we invited Australian bass producer Bezwun who cooked up a smooth housy bass mix to keep the party rocking well into the night.
Lots of diversity and twists on a classic original joint on this EP to keep things funky as always – right here on Breakbeat Paradise Recordings.
Bio on Ken:
KEN ascends from a state: The range of perception, understanding, vision and knowledge. Bringing the debut single “Closer To The Sun” to life with a crunchy break beat, a flurry of sitars and and infectious blues style vocal. Hailing from the North East (U.S.), lifelong friends and collaborators of discObeta, KEN is a seasoned musician and songwriter. There are rumors that KEN also works with well know downtempo artists holding duties as a guitarist, bassist, drummer, and engineer. Not much more is known about this multi-talented artist… and he likes it that way. KEN has had his share of label deals, brushes with famous artists and has a unique relationship with the backbone of one the greatest bands in the world. Where the many desperately seek the limelight, this stoic artist strays away from it and would rather relish in the wash of melody, beats and the exotic. KEN may or may not be the future of music and he likes it that way. This is surely not the last time we will hear from this mysterious music man. Always in the lab cooking up something new to provoke and stimulate your feets and ears. KEN cares about music as a healer and soundtrack to life.
After the success of “Breakin’ the Riddim Vol.1” from last year, we thought it only fitting to follow up with a Vol.2… And what a follow up it is. 12 tracks of reggae and dub influenced breaks, providing an array of styles for whatever your dubby pleasure….
Breakin the Riddim Vol.2 sees some newer artists mixing it up with the more established, giving a combination of sounds that is sure to entertain.
- Illgorhythms – Fire Sound ft. Richard Smithson
A punchy beat and a plucky guitar jump out at you straight away with this from Illgorhythms- And the vibe continues after the drop with the guitar following you through a compliment of keyboards, synths, beats and bass, that fit together to provide a perfect balance of riddim and bass.
- DJ Clairvo – Lyrical Stepper ft. The Kurnel MC
These 2 are becoming regulars on BBP, and have finally joined forces to make a sweet bouncy riddim. The Kurnel MC, with his sharp rhymes and Clairvo’s ability to create a vibe that can only bring a smile to your face is a guaranteed floor filler.
- Cockney Nutjob – Let it Burn
Heavy bass and sharp beats with a dubwise influence is what Cockney Nutjob is known for, and he definitely doesn’t disappoint. A deep rolling bass over the kick gives this track a rumble only this man can deliver.
- Liberty Chaps – Hype Up!
These guys are on the up and up, and come with a riddim, that cannot be missed. Coming with some bassy funk, wobbling through some sweet vocals, and tight beats to keep it HYPE!!
- Leygo – Meditation
Starting with some nice dub vibes, and an echoing vocal, this track explodes out of nowhere into a warped out bass breaker. With a real groove to the beat, never escaping from that dub feeling.
- Fredy High – BoomBoom Fiya
After the success of his track on Vol.1, Fredy High has delivered again; with a hip hop head nodder wrapped up in a nice warm dubby riddim. Off-key synths and a bassline that can shake the tail off a donkey, create the perfect atmosphere for those fans of the more downtempo vibe.
- Bezwun – No Surrender
With previous banger releases on BBP, Bezwun returns with a bassfunk style, filled with sweet synth sounds, all based around ragga vocals that fit perfectly.
- Ocelus – Scrubby Dubby
Little known, yet not deserved, Ocelus is a hidden gem when it comes to making music. This guy has ear for a reggae vibe, using some 8-bit sounds, deep heavy bass, and vocals to sing along to, there won’t be a still foot anywhere when this is on.
- Basschimp – Bad Boys ft. Dan Sharicon
Here we have another artist that featured on Vol.1. We were so pleased with ”Under mi Breakbeat” track, that we had to get him again. Featuring the distinctive vocals of Dan Sharicon, Basschimp produces a nice blend of funky guitars, a deep warping bass and an amen to boot.
10. Funkliners – Mad Man
Funkliners hit you with an uptempo banger filled with madness for those who like to brokout on the dancefloor.
11. Pecoe – Boom
With his ever-growing repertoire of breaks and bass, Pecoe comes with a funk-laced riddim with some recognisable vocal and instrumental stabs throughout to make this a real rolling breaker
12. Morlack – Kool Operator
If it’s a bit of downtempo wobble, then this is for you. Not known for this riddim styles, but more for making ultra funky breaks, Morlack produces a wobbler filled with reggae vocals and mixing the drums up for those different styles in the track.
The duo of Lack Jemmon was founded by Kid Panel and DJ Clairvo during the summer of 2013 in order to bring their musical vision alive – the marriage of tricky glitch-hop, heavy bass-music and happy funk. Their productions have been picked up immediately by the Best New Label of Breakspoll 2013, Scour Records offering the first deal to the guys.
By now, their tracks are being played all around the globe, enjoying the full support received by the majority of the scene of bass heavy funk music, which has lead their remix made for See-I and for The Empresarios on Fort Knox Recordings ending up at the 2nd place of Beatport‘s Glitch Hop Charts and remaining in the Top100 for months.
Nowadays, having released decent amount of free downloads on their Soundcloud, Lack Jemmon still keep on delivering charts-banger tracks. Their latest track they had nailed together with The Kurnel MC called Joan Jett, have been hitting the Breaks Charts of JunoDownload reaching No. 1 position as the part of Bring Back The Funk Vol. 4. compilation. Disappearing from the spot-light, Breakbeat Paradise Recordings decided last year to give Joan Jett a refreshment and the result ended up in a 6-tracker remix EP. Carefully selected producers from the board of the label have been invited to bring difference and versatility to the rock attitude of the original track. The remixers, hailing from the UK, Greece, Australia, Germany actually round up a real international EP that is being packed with heavy yet cathy dance-floor bangers.
In their DJ-sets, the Lack Jemmon dudes throw a unique blend of dynamic hip-hop, big-city funk and dirty breakbeats what they have been introducing to their local Budapest crowd at their club-nights aswell as to the dancefloors of Barcelona, London, Berlin or Bristol on regular basis so far..
